Namibian Sand Monsters: Part 4 – The Last Bite
We head for Swakop for a two day rest and to do some maintenance on our bikes. My 1200adventure is spluttering and coughing at anything over 4000 revs. I am worried about the electronics which I know I can’t repair.

After our fight with the Sand Monster we took it easy, heading South now via Ongong springs to Palmwag. Ongong spring is amazing, among the rocks and desert this water pours out of the ground.

Then we find the powder dust. It looks innocuous until you stamp your boot in it and disappear coughing in a cloud. Its like chalk dust, in between the tracks the middle man is about half a metre high.

Seamus drove all the way to Stellenbosch from Swellendam to replace his clutch! Then turned around and rode to meet us in Calitzdorp arriving after 9. We were lekker gaar at this stage and so he arrived to a round of Calitzdorps best wine a steak and more abuse.
2 Of Hell, Whales, Sex and Baboons!
We started the day in George, while we waited for the Dakar sprocket to be fitted, the mechanic showed us a bike which he’d just recovered from die Hel with a smashed cylinder head. Oh, oh we were going there!

The trip: .Baviaans Kloof, Knysna, Victoria Bay, Montagu Pass, Prince Alfred Pass and the Tsitskama Forest. Whales in Hermanus and the Tradauw pass. Ronnies sex shop and Road kill café, Seweweeks poort all on the famed R 62, then the awesome Swartberg pass and journey into Hell (die Hel) and a run back home across a flower strewn Karroo!

I decided to treat myself for a ride for my birthday, so the plan was to leave on Thursday and ride to Dundee via Memel, Wakkerstroom and a few passes then head to Nkandla and the Nkandla forest Zuma’s home town to Lilani Hot springs near Greytown.
