The trip: .Baviaans Kloof, Knysna, Victoria Bay, Montagu Pass, Prince Alfred Pass and the Tsitskama Forest. Whales in Hermanus and the Tradauw pass. Ronnies sex shop and Road kill café, Seweweeks poort all on the famed R 62, then the awesome Swartberg pass and journey into Hell (die Hel) and a run back home across a flower strewn Karroo!
I decided to treat myself for a ride for my birthday, so the plan was to leave on Thursday and ride to Dundee via Memel, Wakkerstroom and a few passes then head to Nkandla and the Nkandla forest Zuma’s home town to Lilani Hot springs near Greytown.
It was 5am Dec 7th and I climbed on my trusty 1200 GS Adventure with the same desperate anticipation of a cooped up dog being promised a walk. Seamus was meeting me at 5.30 at Sasol and we were off, 1200 km’s to go that day…and I waited and I waited and I waited…. Swearing and calling him his real name Shameful! So I left without him…..
Last year I rode across Namibia challenging the great Namibian sand monster on the “monster” my faithful 1200 GSA. This December was the families turn but I managed to sneak the “bitch” my KTM 640 adventure onto the trailer behind us along with kiddies boards, cans of food, tents and assorted Christmas presents … more the Pakistani Pack Horse than last years Namibian Nomad!
